The pub owner had quite enjoyed the first performance of Kenny and the Kats and thus invited them to perform regularly.

At the beginning, their jazz was mostly heard as background noise by visitors of the establishment. But soon, they noticed certain listeners reappearing and seeming to do so more for the music than the drinks.

Of course, Ken's family would come to see him and his band perform some nights, too. Seeing the proud sparkle in his parents' eyes gave him an extra boost in confidence, especially from his mother who had taught him the art that he was making his career.

SAMANTHA!!! I love her sm. The drummer for the Pit Fiends. Quinn's closest friend since pre-school. Family disappointment? But how and why did she get to where she is.(all of the following content was created quickly and is subject to change).

The following is copied and pasted from my loreforge "History" section for Sam:

Baozhai was born on January 12th 2008. Her mother, Jiang (20 at the time) was overjoyed and quit her factory job to act as a full time parent to her new daughter and, 5 years later, her son Dong. Her father, Jun(24 at the time) was absent at the time of birth as he was tied up in his sales job. This created a sense of resentment between her parents as this absence became a pattern for other important events in their lives. Sam's parents have always been rather distant and disconnected and as a result she became attached to Quinn as she was willing to give Sam the affection she could not receive elsewhere. Their expectations were also extremely high which clashed greatly with Sam's affinity for the arts. This meant she became burnt out at a young age and has been deemed the "Family Disappointment". Her parents are now focused solely on ensuring her little brother does not end up like her.

In contrast to this, Sam is intent on making sure her brother does not have the same troubles she did by showing him the love and affection she never received and allowing him to experience the fun parts of life. The Yan household has since become a sort of battleground where, during the little amount of time she spends there, Sam is forced to fight with her parents over the wellbeing of her little brother. Dong is conflicted about where he stands in this ongoing war. On the one hand, he loves his sister and every day he spends with her is worth more than 100 days with his work obsessed parents however, as most children do, he feels an innate sense of loyalty to his parents that is hard to break away from.

Sam and Quinn met in pre-school and became fast friends because both of their favourite colours were light blue. This has since changed and now neither of them really know their favourite colours. Despite this loss of common ground they remained friends throughout primary and secondary school. They followed each other through everything which caused alot of the grown-ups in their life to joke that they were attached at the hip. They shared alot of the same interests, this was mainly a result of neither of them being able to shut up about this new cool thing they discovered until they could convince the other to also be interested. This is how they found the scene. At the age of 12, Quinn discovered her first alt song: Champagne For My Real Friends and Real Pain For My Sham Friends by Fall Out Boy. Quinn loved this song so much: the guitars, the lyricism, the drum beat that you could just find yourself tapping out with a pencil on your school desk for days. She began to listen to more and more of their music and then began branching out into other bands: My Chemical Romance, Panic at the Disco(though they were not as good after their first album), Sleeping With Sirens and other popular bands from the alt scene. It was almost impossible for Sam to have a conversation with her closest friend without hearing about these artists. So, naturally, she began to listen to them too. Sam immediately became hooked on it, much like her friend, and she gravitated towards the heavier stuff like Pierce the Veil, much to the dismay of her parents.

When the duo began secondary school they struggled to make friends due to their "offputting" interests. This changed however, when they met Felix Crown. One day in their first week, some of the year 8s were forced to come and give a presentation about some of the extracurricular activities the school offered. Felix was the representative for the Tabletop Gaming club and they seemed wholly uninterested in being there, clearly just attempting to get the job done as quickly as possible. At first neither of them found this lanky kid, who had the most unruly hair and the beginnings of a beard growth that really should have been shaved but hadn't been, to be of any interest at all. Until they noticed the pin badge on the lapel of his blazer. A marching skeleton in a military parade suit. The Black Parade logo. It took a while to track them down but after asking around for a few days they learned the kids name and that they usually hung out in the library at social times.

Initially Felix was unreceptive to the two girls attempts to befriend them however after a week of constant pestering they finally gave in and agreed to hang out with them that weekend under the terms that they got to choose where they went. That Sunday the trio entered an abandoned apartment building and sat on the floor sharing music. This was the first time that Sam and Quinn had ever been exposed to small bands and it opened up a whole new world of art and emotion for the two to explore.

A year later, when Sam was in year 8, Felix introduced them to Historic Records, the hottest record store for alt kids, and the Outhouse: the home of London's shittest music. 3 nights a week you could pay 5 pound entry for a night of shit music from a local band and deadly mosh pits. Sam and Quinn both had to lie to their parents about where they were going and after a few months of this they were found out. Their respective parents attempted to ground them but ended up finding open windows in their empty bedrooms.

In their 9th year, Quinn brought up the idea of starting a band and so they and Sam got to work convincing Felix to join them, which was surprisingly easy. Felix was far more enthusiastic than they had expected and they even introduced their new friend Andy to the group as they were in need of a lead guitarist and Andy played.

In the November of her 11th school year, Andy and Samantha found themselves stranded in Brighton following a concert that they had not told their parents about. They didn't consider the logistics of their return trip and as such had to spend the night huddled together beneath Andy's jacket on a bench in the train station. Despite the lengthy groundings they both received (and completely ignored) both of them hold it to this day as one of the coolest days of their lives.

Usually!!! Sometimes, I'll get behind by not responding for like a year though, and then I'll be like.......it's been too long.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

I don't necessarily do angsty endings, but probably "a matter of going through" because it ends with heavily implied reconciliation that doesn't quite get actualized.

7. What the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

I ALSO don't tend to do like, cookie-cutter happy endings. Usually I go for the, everything's still hard but we'll get through it together, endings. But probably, the path to peace (is paved with good intentions).

8. Do you get hate on fics?

I got that one weird anon I mentioned for the Upside-Down AU, and then I got one person on one of my fics where a pizza delivery driver falls in love with a customer telling me that it was problematic because the driver has no agency. And I was like, lol this is fanfiction and I AM a delivery driver.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

I've written exactly ONE unpublished smut fic for Alice Quinn from The Magicians in which her evil counterpart came through the mirror and they fucked about it. I'm thinking of doing a one-shot smut fic for the Upside-Down AU though.

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

Closest I've gotten is me and a friend plotting out the unholy union of I Am In Eskew and The Penumbra Podcast (Juno Steel).

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Thankfully, nope!

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Yeah, my most popular Naruto fanfic was translated to Russian!

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Nope! I've never gotten past the fucked up world-building stage with friends. Could be fun though.

14. What's your all time favorite ship?

As an aromantic person, the platonic ships are usually more important to me. First ones that come to mind are platonic stobin, and from the Untamed, Jiang Cheng & Wei Wuxian who are brothers. Honestly, I usually get sucked into romantic pairings because I'm like, wow, sure would love to see these two interract more! And then all the fanfic is romantic, so that's what I read!!!

15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

Definitely my one where Jiang Cheng from The Untamed sees ghosts. If you've watched that show, you understand how this would be both hilarious and deeply fucked up.

16. What are your writing stregths?

I think I'm pretty good at little moments. Like when everyone is having a meal together etc, small, contained scenes.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Getting from point A to point B, like, how do I skip through time without if seeming weird????? So, joining sentences?

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

I've never done it, but I think it can serve its purpose. Unless you speak the language though, I think it can veer into offensive and clunky unless you get a translator.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

The Magicians, which broke my soul enough that I wrote a crack fic about it.

20. Favorite fic you've written?

My favorite is always my current obsession, so Upside-Down AU lol, but from what's published, it's definitely two million naturally occuring sweet things which is just a tretius on grief masquerading as a soup recipe.

8. What are some of your favorite arospec characters?

I already answered this: Sister Carpenter from the Silt Verses. Hands down. But just to make it more interesting, here's a list of characters I Decided are aromantic: Alice Quinn from The Magicians, Jiang Cheng from The Untamed, Steve Harrington from Stranger Things, Julia from Hellraiser, I could go on.

Kenneth knew exactly what he wanted to do with his life and he wasted no time getting there. While his mother had used her younger days playing the piano in the background of gatherings and bars, he wanted to do more than that. His life was meant for the stage, too, but he dreamt bigger, of playing his instrument as part of a group.

So, Ken wrote up a an advertisement piece which he posted all around town, his family's phone number attached for anyone interested to call. He was in the middle of posting his ads in the local library, when a young girl around his age suddenly popped around the corner. She introduced herself as Tatiana, or Tia, and was keen to join the band.

Of course, Kenneth was excited to already have somebody interested, and as soon as Tia gave him a preview of her singing prowess, he had strong faith that his dream was really coming true.

It was not long until they had formed a proper little jazz band of four. With Ken at the piano and Tia at the microphone, there now were also drummer Leon and trumpeter Quinn. Luckily, the four of them got along splendidly, which could only be a sign for great success.

The group had already found a quite fancy local pub that was regularly hosting all kinds of performers. They secured themselves a spot for a gig, with the promise that, if it was to be successful, they might even become a regular act.

[TRANSCRIPT]

Kenneth: *whistles*

???: "A band, eh? Sounds like right crack! Need a vocalist?"

Kenneth: "Oh, there's actually nobody but me, so far. You interested?"

???: "Sure am! As long as you're serious about this, too."

Kenneth: "Well, of course! There's nothing I'm more serious about."

???: "Great! I'm Tatiana, by the way, but you can call me Tia."

Kenneth: "Kenneth, or just Ken. Nice to meet you, Tia!"

the pack plus theo and quinn and jiang and tierney are about to go outside. scott asks lydia if shes ready, she nods. scott turns around and malia flashes her fangs, liam flicks out his claws and then everyone turns to theo whos like 😑 and puts his claws up petty asf . but then stilinski stops them and says "nobodys going anywhere" and lydia is like "i can get through them" and he ssays "we're not gonna fire the first shot. now get back from the door. all of you." and tells parrish to get jiang and tierney back to their cell. scott asked stilinski what happened with monroe. "she gave us til midnight" she wants them, dead or alive, she wants them brought to her band of rebels. anyway everyone helps barricate the doors . monroe is also jamming cell phones and the radio . and its clear that the person who was recruits by monroe is in the station bc ... who else would ahve access to something that can jam a law enforcement transmitter. anyway then the power goes out and someone asks "how easy is it to cut off the power to a police station?" and one of the deputies says "too easy" and shoves nolan into the center of the room. and liam immediately says "Throw him out." and nolan is like "no-no you cant . okay please dont. she'll know i screwed up." and liam says "hes with them." and scott gives him a warning little "Liam.." then liam says "hes a liar and hes sick in the head." and scott is so fucking concerned he doesnt ask right awsy but he looks at liam and nolan ans hes like . what the hell is making him so angry? anyway then sheriff throws nolan in the lock up. turns out nolan and jiang knew each other. idrc ab that. i feel bad for nolan to an extent but like bro. you are highly susceptible to peer pressure and you have anxiety in your eyes. go to therapy and dont beat up your classmates i feel as if that is simple. anyway. for some reasom it cuts to theo dragging liam into the bathroom....? i never understood the point of this scene. have they been talking before this? did theo notice his mood change when nolan came around? things we'll never know. anyway convo goes like 

theo: monroe's not gonna stop. nothing we say is gonna make them get in their cars and drive away. those two losers killed hunters. 

liam: who killed their pack

theo: so what? i mean, monroe's gonna tear through anything standing between her and them. that means you, lydia, malia, and scott. You gonna watch your friends die? 

liam: are you gonna watch hunters murder them? jiang and tierney werent the only ones that were apart of satomi's pack

theo: yeah...right....the hit and run. sorry if im not losing sleep over some random roadkill!

liam: THEY WERE MURDERED. BRETT AND LORI. THEY DIDNT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THIS. 

theo: so what you think saving those two is gonna make everything feel better? (scoffs) your dead friends are dead. and theyre gonna STAY DEAD no matter WHAT you d- 

and then liam punches the fuck out of him. literallt mean i heard something break he dropppppeddd to the fllooorrr. literally caught the wall and started sliding down it until he was on the floor lying down. effectivelt shutted him the fuck up.  and then liam steps over him and says "by the way im still working on my anger." and theo raises a hand as liam walks out the bathroom and says "good to know." <-hoarse and raspy. 

hope u know during the whollleee fight they were getting closer n closer to each other so like they literally went into the bathroom for a quickie argument to release the tension ig. now that i think about it theo probably dragged him in there bc hes the only one he trusts to talk to besides the fact liam gets so worked up around him sometimes. funny how he talks about not losing sleep over brett n lori but hes for sure losing sleep . my bad
